Are You Offering Anything Original?

One of the things that sets us apart in our home businesses from others in our market is when we do or offer something completely original. Whether it is a product, a service, or the way we go about doing business (our service delivery), if we can offer something original, it will differentiate us and may help us to attract and keep clients and customers.

It is hard to be original! It can seem like everything has already been done and been done over and over again at that. People are constantly coming up with new inventions and products, however, and even putting a new spin on an old product or service. Even though you may be doing something seemingly ordinary like consulting-you can probably come up with a way to do it differently and with an original touch.

Your *something original* does not have to be huge or complicated, it can be quite simple. Perhaps you can come on site whereas a larger company could not, perhaps you have time for more personal attention or follow-up or you can add a little touch to your packages or the way you deliver your product (a recyclable container, for example). Whatever you can do that is original and different, it will probably help you to create a reputation that lets people know you and your home business are special.

You might start by asking your customers or clients what they would like to see-if there is any service or product that they wish they had or have always wanted. This can be a good way to inspire you to create or offer that very product or service that those individuals need. Meanwhile, you are turning your home business into a specialized operation with special products or services targeted to the market place.
