Getting Out of Debt: A New Attitude

The idea of completely getting out of debt takes some getting used to. After all, most of us “need” to carry mortgages and car payments. If we want to go to college, we have to take out loans. Many of us struggle with credit card debt just to cover the necessities. As a family, we made a decision that we wouldn’t carry any debt that wasn’t necessary. Now, after Financial Peace University, we have learned that no debt is really necessary. That is quite an adjustment. I look around at all of the things that we would like to have, … Continue reading

End of the Month Check In

I do hope a laugh, if in fact it was funny, made your day brighter. We also covered plenty of recipes for that fall beauty the pumpkin. I hope the … Continue reading

End of the Month Check In

We discussed children and teen weight loss, how great watermelon is for you, how you do not have to give up peanut butter to lose weight, the emotional side of losing weight, some recipes and how you should focus on health and not your weight. We even touched on the weight loss industry being fertile ground for scams and got some fun recipes to try. So it has been a full month discussing a wide variety of topics. … Continue reading

Checklist of Things to Discuss before Marriage

Part of the joy of meeting new people and being in a relationship is getting to know them, their likes and dislikes. This means more than just things like their favorite color and movie, etc. It means getting to know their attitudes towards life and how they will react in a given situation. With a marriage partner it is even more important. Yet, I am constantly amazed at how little some couples communicate and talk to each other about major issues before they get married. Do they think they will just all resolve themselves because they love each other? It … Continue reading

An Attitude of Gratitude 2

I’ve been talking about how an attitude of gratitude is important when living frugally. if you missed the first part of this topic, please click here: An Attitude of Gratitude. I really appreciate all of the great comments on that post! Here are two instances in the same day just this week that illustrate how good things may happen when you are grateful. The first was on a trip to the library to pick up some books and a movie. The person ahead of me had a large stack of books to check out, so I decided to browse around. … Continue reading

Spiritual Check Up

Every year we should go in and have an annual check up. The doctor checks us over to make sure everything is still working. Similarly we go to the dentist on a regular basis for a check up to make sure that we are not developing any cavities and to prevent tooth decay and other common problems. But when was the last time that you had a spiritual check up. Our testimonies do need to be nourished each and every day. It is important to take care of our spiritual help, just as it is important to take care of … Continue reading

An Attitude of Gratitude

Newsletters can be a source of things to be thankful for. This morning three newsletters arrived in my inbox. I am thankful for each one and God’s timing in bringing them along today. The first was from the publisher Allen and Unwin. Although the subject was about writing, 4 Brainstorming Guidelines for Getting Ideas, the principles could as easily apply to counting blessings as well. Check out the guidelines and you’ll see what I mean. Then apply them to counting your blessings and developing an attitude of thankfulness. The second one titled ‘The Writing Life’ pointed me to the Paulo … Continue reading
