Starting a Plan for Home Business Retirement

I’ve written before about how I don’t really see myself “retiring” in the traditional sense of the word. I really can’t picture ever being in a place where I can just stop working all together. But, I have talked to some small and home business owners who are not planning for retirement because they think they WON’T be able to. Just because you are building and running your home business, doesn’t mean that you can’t be planning for a comfortable retirement too. The first step is to see a financial or retirement planner to help set up a strategy. You … Continue reading

Can You Envision Retirement?

I have some older friends, as well as relatives, who are either retiring, or gearing up for retirement. These folks don’t seem THAT much older than me and it gives me a sense of panic–I haven’t even really figured out what I want my career and work world to look like yet, how can I even think about retirement?! It’s not really about the money, although having spent so many years working to generate income and support my family, it’s hard to imagine what life might look like if I didn’t have to do that on an hourly, daily and … Continue reading

The ingredient I left off my recipe for a happy marriage was being attuned to each other’s moods. This never became more obvious than on Tuesday. I was feeling rather flat-I suspect because I’d been confined to the house so much lately. ‘I feel rather flat,’ Mick announced. ‘Me Too,’I agreed. Mick then proposed we take ourselves out for a day date, ‘if you can spare the time from work.’ I’d been thinking exactly the same. As so often we were in tune with each other’s feelings and thought processes, which I comes from having been married so many years … Continue reading

The Portable Career

One of my motivations for “going solo” and building a home business is that I’d like to work towards making a world where I can go anywhere and my work and income won’t be tied to an actual location. My home business is not so much about “home” as it is about NOT being at an office or a specific location that I have to be at every day. I’d like to be able to work from anywhere! With three high-school-age teenagers, I’m looking forward to a few years from now (3 ½ to be exact) when I won’t HAVE … Continue reading
