Scents and Sensuality

Do you wear perfume? (Or, if you’re a man, cologne?) Did your husband pick it for you? (Or your wife? If that applies.) If you picked it yourself, did you pick a scent you hoped your significant other would find alluring? Or did you simply pick something you found appealing? I don’t remember how long ago it was, but once upon a time I saw a report on a TV show about scent preferences. It could have been months, it could have been years. Most things are a blur these days. However, it was about a study of perfumes and … Continue reading

Consider Using Scents

We have talked about so many different ways to get your business to stand out in the market place, and various ways to use marketing and promotions to spread the word about your products and services, but recently someone told me about a tactic that I haven’t really written about–scent. Seems this person uses her version of “aromatherapy” to make her marketing materials stand out in the crowd. As it was told to me, she spritzes her postcards, invoices and other card stock and mailing materials with a little diluted essential oil. She said she uses a citrus-scent since she … Continue reading

Fearful For the Next Generation

I’m old, but I’m not dead yet. Then again, maybe I ought to be considering all of the double dog dares I chose to take on as a child. Of course, eating dirt, paper plates, napkins and TP’ing Mrs. McDaniel’s house is nothing compared to what teens these days are doing to prove to their peers that they are cool like that. When I first heard about teens drinking hand sanitizer in order to score a cheap buzz, I thought the cases were isolated. However, since the Los Angeles Times went public with its investigation into the new trend of … Continue reading

Two Clinical Trials About Autism are Seeking Participants

There are two different clinical studies that are currently accepting participants. One is seeking children who have autism, and the other is looking for parents of children who have autism. It is possible that the studies will reveal amazingly helpful treatments for autism, but there is no guarantee of this. Would you sign up your child to be in a clinical trial? The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry is currently accepting participants for two, entirely different, clinical studies. Each of these studies is focused on finding interventional programs for autism. One study is designed to discover whether … Continue reading

The Leading Cause of Disabilities in Youth is Mental Illness

A disability can be physical, cognitive, social, or emotional in nature. In some cases, differences in learning styles can be considered as a disability. The World Health Organization says that mental health problems make up almost half of all disabilities in children and young adults. This may seem surprising, since mental illnesses are frequently kept as a secret. The World Health Organization (WHO) did some research that involved data that came from 191 different countries around the world. Researchers then estimated the number of years of having good health that were lost because of disease or injury. The term for … Continue reading

Medicare May Soon Cover STD Exams

Medicare and Medicaid may soon cover the cost of testing for sexually transmitted diseases. This is one part of a new initiative to expand the coverage of preventative health care. This coverage will be beneficial to the elderly, the disabled, and the pregnant women who are using Medicare or Medicaid health insurance. It is very important to have good health. In general, people who are in good health feel good, live longer, and are more able to actively participate in their lives than people who are sick. One of the things a person can do in order to stay healthy … Continue reading

Pheromone Therapy

Valerian, an herb with a soothing effect The day after I posted my article on laser declawing, I received an email from my friend and former roommate Becca. She wanted to share a laser declawing success story; a friend of hers signed her cat up for the surgery and it went very well. The cat was able to jump around the house the same day as the surgery as if everything was normal, and because the procedure did not remove the cat’s knuckles, it can still catch things like houseflies that traditionally declawed cats cannot. I’m excited to hear firsthand … Continue reading

Green Tips for Toilet Paper Usage

I don’t know if you remember, but back in 2007, rocker Sheryl Crow caused a bit of a stir with her idea of how to be green in the bathroom. She blogged that she thought people should limit themselves to the number of squares of toilet paper they used per sitting. She suggested using only one square unless there were “pesky occasions” where you might need to use two or three. I am assuming this was reserved for number two bathroom visits only. Anyhow, her younger brother suggested she wash out the one square after using it. This caused quite … Continue reading
