Diary of a Work at Home Mom Part 20

One of the wonderful things about being a home-based professional is that some types of home-based work can be done at places other than your home. Today, I read a story on Elance about a person who was able to travel to Ecuador for six weeks because he works online. Perhaps even more fascinating than the fact that this person was able to travel to Ecuador and experience an entirely new place and culture is the fact that since this person works as a freelance writer, he could even relocate to Ecuador permanently if he wanted to and still have … Continue reading

A Fun Home Based Business Idea

Being a parent can bring out all kinds of personality traits that you may have never known that you had. If you have been blessed with the ability to get silly, to let loose and be a little goofy, then chances are good that your kids absolutely love it when you do. If your kids love your animated antics and silly shenanigans, there is also a good chance that their little friends would too. In other words, you just might be a great birthday party entertainer. Being an entertainer at children’s birthday parties is not for the faint of heart. … Continue reading

Be Specific To Be Successful

When you start your own business, you quickly realize that you are in charge of a lot of things. From accounting to production and everything in between, if you are going into business by yourself for yourself, it’s all you. One of the things that can be tempting for solo business owners is the urge to appeal to as many people as possible in the hopes of attracting more customers. It is only natural to want people to believe that you are the one who can provide what they need. Since you are in charge of how you market your … Continue reading

Diary of a Work At Home Mom Part 17

Today a random thought crossed my mind and I cannot seem to get rid of it. It is probably a thought that is not unique to me, in fact I am sure that many home-based professionals and even some people who work outside of the home have had at one time or another. It is actually more of a question than a thought, though. My question of the day is whether it is okay for a person who holds themselves out as a professional to admit to themselves and/or others that work is not their top priority. I am not … Continue reading

Diary of a Work At Home Mom – Part 16

Everyone understands the value of learning from mistakes. Once a mistake has been made, the best thing that you can do is to find the lesson in it and move forward, remembering not to repeat the mistake again. Today I made a mistake that made me realize that being eager to please is not always a good thing. Yesterday, I received wonderful news that I had been awarded a job that I had bid on the night before. It is just for a few hours a week, which is exactly what I needed to round out my schedule. Today, I … Continue reading

Diary of a Work At Home Mom Part 13

The life of a work-at-home mom is never boring, and today is no exception. Last night, hurricane Irene knocked out our electricity around 5PM and there’s no telling when it will come back on. Fortunately, that is all that happened at my house. Unfortunately, many people with homes and businesses near the rivers of Vermont did not fare so well and I hope that they are able to recover from their losses. Not having electricity sure takes some things off of the to-do list, like dishes and laundry. Those things will pile up and be waiting for me when the … Continue reading

Online Freelance Work is Going Strong

As a home-based professional who does freelance work online, I am very much interested in how other online freelance workers are doing in the down economy. Today, I took a look at a report on online freelance work which was put out by Elance, a web site where freelance professionals of all kinds can bid on and work on jobs for clients around the world. The report focuses on what has been happening for online freelancers during the second quarter of fiscal year 2011. I am happy to say that things look good for online workers across the broad spectrum … Continue reading
