Direct Sales, The Party!by Debbie LaCroix | More from this Blogger 09 Jan 2007 12:21 PM Some people love them, some people hate them. But the truth is, the party is the heart of most direct sales businesses. However, the word party just sounds like so much work! With a party you have to have a huge guest list, send out nice invites, provide a ton of food, clean, and it takes tons of work. Because of this notion, many companies are changing the word party to get-together, workshop, spa, women's night out or even mommy's playdate. Really, hosting a party is as sample as picking a date, giving the consultant your guest list, picking up just one or two rooms of the house or the main floor, and doing simple snacks and drinks. I always tell my hostess not to go overboard. The party is after dinner, so just Chex Mix, cookies, or dip are perfect. For drinks, water and soda are fine, though some hostesses like to provide alcohol. Why host? There are many reasons my hostesses will open up their home. 1.) Free products. They may be on a tight budget or just motivated by a free shopping spree. It's a great way for them to stock up for birthdays, the holidays and just because. 2.) A chance to "play." Not everyone sells toys, but the guests and hostess get a chance to be hands on with the products. It is nice to test something out before buying it. Spas are a great way to be pampered and see if you like the scents and feel of their products. Food parties are even better where you get to taste everything. 3.) A chance to get together with friends. Many women just like an excuse to hang out. They may host many parties, or their group of friends may take turns. Since most parties are adults only, it's a great excuse to leave the kids at home (or to boot them out of the house) and be social. 4.) To support and help out a friend starting out. Many women just like to help out their friends. Plus, they get free products. As a consultant, it is important to understand why people will host, for this will benefit you. Parties are a great chance to meet new customers and make some good money. If you have never done a party before, call your upline and ask her to walk you through it. Now is a great time to start.
