Do You Miss the Drama of the Workplace?

I wrote last week about how one of my favorite things about having a home business is that I do not have deal with other people's drama or those with a flair for the dramatic that seems to exist in every other traditional job. A friend of mine commented, however, that she likes a little drama in her work day and that having that dramatic coworker can be entertaining and keeps a person from focusing on their own self. As she explained, "I never have to talk about anything personal at work because our resident drama queen keeps everyone entertained." I thought, perhaps, we could talk here about those of us who may actually MISS some of that workplace drama now that we are working at our home businesses.

What my friend said is true-while I find that the office Drama Queen can suck up time, resources, and energy that I would rather spend on other things, that person does provide entertainment and keep anyone else in the office from having to talk about what they did last weekend or what is going on in their life. For those workers who would rather keep that information to themselves, the drama can be a grand distraction--as long as one does not inadvertently find himself as a "player" in the drama of the Dramatic One.

A rich, dramatic workplace CAN provide hours of entertainment and a feeling of involvement and many of us just do not get that in our home businesses if they are mellow and organized. I know that working from my home business is absolutely NOTHING like working in an office in terms of politics, drama and conversation. I can get my work done in a fraction of the time but it is not nearly as politically or humanly stimulating as having someone stirring things up and sharing their ongoing life dramas. I could see where a person might miss all that!
