Don't Sacrifice Quality

Efficiency and cost-effectiveness in our home businesses are good things, sure, and it is important for us to keep an eye on the bottom line. After all, we are "in business"--but it is important to make sure that we don't sacrifice quality and make sure we continue to offer a quality service or product to our customers and clients.

"Quality" can be one of those words in the consumer markets that is so over-used. After all, how often do you hear or see it on packaging, in commercials, and in marketing materials for everything from construction to toilet paper? Still, quality is really a key consideration when you are running a business. Whatever you offer to customers and clients as your product or service will reflect on you and your business for months and years to come.

So, while you are looking for ways to make your home-based business a success; and looking over ways to cut expenses and improve efficiency, it is important to make sure that you are not sacrificing quality. It is a good idea to do a periodic check and evaluation of the quality of product or service you are offering. You can conduct a survey and ask customers what they think, or you can bring in some objective "outsiders" to do an informal focus group. Keeping track of what else is being offered in your market can also help you compare the quality of what you are selling or offering, to what else is available in the marketplace. Quality is important, and it is one of those elements of business that can easily get overlooked or pushed aside when times get tough or you are trying to boost your profit margins. While you may see a boost in numbers in the short-term, if you sacrifice quality, your business will be in trouble in the long run!
