What Teen Girls Experience Online

It is well known that adult women experience harassment online. It can be stressful, frustrating, and abusive. What many parents do not realize is that teenage girls are also experiencing online harassment. It might be a good idea to sit down and ask your teenager about what she has faced via social media. The Pew Research Center did a study called “Teens, Technology, and Romantic Relationships”. Both male and female teens were included in the study. The teens were between the ages of 13 and 17. All of them were American. Some of the study revealed data about how teens … Continue reading

A Fulfilling Experience and a Worrying Fact

On the radio the other day, I heard a couple of interesting facts about a recent survey with fathers. Most men feel that being a father is a fulfilling experience and would like more time with their kids. Men feel they miss out on so many of the milestones of their children’s lives because of work commitments. However, they feel their jobs could be threatened if they asked for more time off to spend with the kids. Of course a lot depends on how important their career is as against time with wife and family. I know of an at … Continue reading

How to Declutter Your Social Media

Want to start off the new year with a nicer, happier, more interesting online experience? One way to do it is to take the time to declutter your social media. Keep the connections that add value to your life and get rid of the rest. You might also want to cancel accounts on social media websites that you have stopped using. Social media can be fun and entertaining. Unfortunately, it also has the potential to turn into a drama-filled, stressful, nightmare of a place to visit. The problem with following too many people is that it makes it hard to … Continue reading

Adventures by Disney Cruise Enhancements

Once again the Disney Cruise line has teamed up with Adventures by Disney to help you make even more out of your Disney vacation. Before, the two created European Port Adventures, where guests on European cruises could follow Adventures by Disney guides on land to see and learn even more of the countries they’re visiting. This time they’re doing something similar, with Alaska. The name is a bit wordier this time, called “Enhance Your Alaskan Cruise with Adventures by Disney.” For anyone familiar with Adventures by Disney, particularly its trips to rural locales, a lot of the activities are going … Continue reading

This is an election year, and we have been hearing a lot of news that talks about the genealogy of various candidates and political figures. There are plenty of books out, right now, that will tell you more about the lives of these important women. Michelle Obama is the current First Lady. You probably have heard about her efforts to get children to eat healthier, and to engage in more frequent physical activity. Genealogists might be interested … Continue reading

Disney Park Secrets: The Mark Twain Riverboat

After exploring the Hidden Magic of Disney World I decided to start a new recurring column: uncovering secrets of the Disney Parks. Today focuses on a special ride at Disneyland: the Mark Twain Riverboat. The ship sidles its way for twelve minutes around the Rivers of America attraction, taking guests for a short scenic cruise. Horns and bells are used to signify the arrival and departure of the Riverboat, and also to communicate specific messages to other crafts also sluicing through the waters, the Rafts to Pirate’s Lair and Davy Crockett’s Explorer canoes. What’s so special about the Mark Twain … Continue reading

Loving an Angry Man

I’ll never forget a conversation I had with my husband early in our relationship regarding his anger issues. I was trying to ascertain whether or not he understood the impact his volatile temper had on his personal and professional life. When I realized that he didn’t necessarily consider his anger a negative attribute, I asked him, “How do you figure your temper helps you?” His answer was swift and decisive: “People are afraid of me, so they usually do what I want.” He was a little slower in answering my next question: “And how does it hurt you?” Like most … Continue reading

Expectations for Parenting

Have you thought about what it will be like once you have your baby? What will motherhood be like and what will it require? Is it really as bad as some people say? Is it really as wonderful as some people say? Will you be successful and what does that even mean? In reflecting back on my expectations for becoming a mom, I find that I was entirely wrong on all accounts. I knew I would love my child, but the scale and scope of what I anticipated was completely eclipsed by reality. I love him so much more than … Continue reading
