Forget the Internet, I Love the Post-It Noteby Kori Rodley Irons | More from this Blogger 30 Jul 2007 08:49 AM When I think back over all the technological advances of the past couple decades and how they all have affected the way I work--I feel a great deal of appreciation for all sorts of things--e-mail, the internet, the FAX machine, voice mail--but one of the little inventions I truly appreciate and use continuously every day...is Post-It notes. When I consider how often I reach for one of those little colored squares or, my favorite, the larger, index-card-sized lined sheets, in the course of the day; how I write phone messages, grocery lists, use them for book marks and to remind myself where I've left off on a page or document, I know that I cannot imagine getting through a work day without the lowly Post-It note. What on earth did we do before those little sticky slips of paper? Did we use tape or scribble in margins or just tuck a regular piece of note paper or torn sheet of typing paper into our work and books? To be completely honest, I can't even remember what I did or how I managed to keep myself organized. I notice that my kids use the small little rectangular Post-It notes when they are studying to mark important passages--they will never know that a world existed without Post-Its. I wonder what the next live-without-it invention will be that affects how I do business? There really hasn't been anything that compares to Post-Its Notes for the past several years, but I imagine there will be. That is the marvelous thing about the ingenuity of the human mind, someone inevitably invents something we didn't even know we needed and then we can't imagine living life without it! Perhaps my grandchildren will change the saying "best thing since sliced bread" to be "best thing since Post-It Notes?"
