Losing Focus…and Getting it Back

The other day I confessed that there are those time when I really don’t want to work! I can think of a dozen things I would rather be doing, or I just cannot seem to muster the focus to concentrate on what needs to be done. Since we are working from home in our own businesses, we don’t have bosses or external forces to motivate us. Somehow, we have to find a way to get ourselves back on track and deal with it when we lose focus (and find a way to get it all back!) I am most likely … Continue reading

Getting December Under Control

Here in my little city, we have a holiday market during the month of December with hundreds of booths and vendors—most of which are small, home-based micro-businesses. As I peruse the aisles of crafts and arts and talents and foods—I realized that all of these small businesses are working non-stop during the month of December. Talking to one of the vendors, I learned that her business was mostly seasonal and that she didn’t see much of her family until AFTER the first of the year. Planning for Changes…or Status Quo?

I have written these past few weeks about ways to wrap up this calendar year in our businesses and get ready for the next one. Budgeting and planning are part of the package, as well as getting ready to pay taxes and organizing record-keeping for the end of the year. I thought it might be work mentioning, however, that not every home business needs to plan for big changes in the upcoming twelve months. It is a perfectly legitimate planning technique to plan to keep to a status quo for a period of time… Having a long term plan for … Continue reading

Listening to Body Signals in Operating Your Business
