What is Dependent Personality Disorder? (2)

Not being able to make up your own mind and needing others to help you to make even the most basic of decisions is one characteristic of Dependent Personality Disorder (DPD). Another is being unable to state your wants, needs and opinions because of an unrealistic fear of rejection. In our last article (see link below) we looked at the stories of Lori and Jennifer, who displayed several of the characteristic traits of this disorder. Learning to be a Decision-Maker in Your Business

While some of us may be used to being in charge, some of us come to our home businesses without a lot of “boss” experience. Perhaps we have always worked under someone else who made all the decisions or we have very minimal supervisory experience. For some of us, it is this desire to be in control of our own work world that spurs us on to even starting our own small home-based business—but it can take some focus to learn how to make decisions and be a strong decision-maker. Act Like the Boss

I am not by nature the slightest bit interested in being the boss of anyone. That is one of the things that draws me to the type of work I do and the way I do it—I don’t want to have to tell anyone else what to do and I don’t particularly like it when someone tells me what to do! She tells me when I should work, and when it is time to play. The other day, she even chastised me for drinking too … Continue reading

Home Business – The Cost of Being “Boss-Free”

Have you ever considered the cost of being boss-free? I haven’t given it much thought until last week when I had an interview for a part-time Program Coordinator position with a local non-profit agency. As I was discussing the benefits, the pay and other details with the interviewer, I was so excited that I could literally feel my heart start to race. It has been so long since I have had a regular schedule, a consistent paycheck (with benefits to boot). The pay for the position was almost twice what I’d earned in a similar one and it was a … Continue reading
