Home Business: What about Health Insurance?by Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 26 Apr 2006 05:33 AM Are you thinking about quitting your job to start a home business? Have you recently started working at home? If either of these applies to you, you are probably concerned about health insurance benefits, along with many other issues. As far as insurance goes, things have changed quite a bit over the last several years. You may have noticed your premiums and deductibles going up while your coverage has decreased. What you may not realize is that there are many personal health insurance plans available today that are quite comparable to group plans offered by employers. In fact, people can often obtain private health insurance coverage that outweighs the value of benefits offered by employers. Insurance companies are beginning to realize that they have to offer competitive policies for self-employed individuals or those that work as independent contractors. One company, Assurant Health, says it specializes in such policies. Their motto is, "Our plans are based on yours." Check with them for a free quote to compare with what other providers are offering. Don't forget to ask about health insurance savings plans. Even if you are already covered under your spouse's policy at work, you may find that you can get a better deal elsewhere. Spouses are often charged much more than the actual employee is. This is especially true for wives, because maternity and other women's health issues tend to be very expensive. You may very well be able to find an insurance policy on your own that is a better value, so check with leading companies and compare quotes. It only takes a few minutes of your time. You may find that you can save a great deal of money, get better coverage for the same money, or tailor a plan to suit your needs instead of continuing to pay for options you don't need.
