My Brave Year of Firsts

When was the last time your child’s bedtime story included details on the book’s main character crashing her two-wheeler and her mom recording the entire incident on an iPhone? Not exactly Goodnight Moon, but this is 2012, baby. If you are looking for a book modern-day kids can really relate to, then My Brave Year of Firsts is sure to be a fast favorite. While the playfully written page-turner has a classic theme–celebrating the triumphs and tribulations associated with a child’s major milestones–its approach is far from traditional. Actress turned bestselling children’s book author Jamie Lee Curtis and award-winning illustrator … Continue reading

In Love with My New iPhone

I have written about how much I disliked my last phone. I have tweeted it and I have Facebooked about it. Yes, I was a bit obsessed with how much I disliked my Vortex (Android). It was not until I already made the purchase that I read a review where the writer said he would like to run over the phone a few times. I thought that was a pretty harsh sentiment. However, in time, I understood that sentiment all too well. I even caught myself wishing a plague upon the store that sold me the phone. Yet, it was … Continue reading

Intentional about Seeking New Opportunities

When I started this blog series off in the beginning of the year, I mentioned several things that I wanted to be intentional about. One of them was being intentional about seeking new opportunities for work. This may not apply to everyone, but for some of us who work at home, we have to be seekers. For instance, freelance writers don’t usually get work dropped into their laps. We have to actively seek work. I have been working steadily, full-time for nearly two years now with a web content company in which I write articles, blogs, news pieces and FAQ’s … Continue reading

Insta-Love

I heart the Instagram iPhone app. Some of my friends have ditched their traditional digital cameras, and now exclusively use their phones to snap photos of their kids and any other frame worthy subject. I still shoot with my camera, though not nearly as often. For those of you who have not been sucked into the world of Instagram, the free iPhone app is basically a social network for photos. Once you take your pictures you can edit, apply eye-popping special effects and filters, and then share them with your peeps via Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, and a several other … Continue reading

My Favorite Fitness App

There is one application that I simply love for keeping track of my outdoor workouts. It is called iMapMyRun. This has been a really helpful tool in my quest to live a healthy lifestyle. IMapMyRun is an excellent choice if you do a lot of walking, running, or biking (road or mountain). You have an option of recording a workout you are about to do or logging a workout you have already done. Recording a workout is a great to see your distance, elevation and a map of what you did. Back in Black iPhone App

I love my iPhone. I haven’t made a secret about that. I think I’ve talked about it enough in my writing. There are so many things I can do with my phone. I know I got along just fine before I had a cell phone at all and then did just fine when I had a simple phone that’s only fun feature was voice dialing. Now I don’t know what I’d do without my iPhone and all its smart phone features. There are many things I can do on my phone to shop for deals and make sure I’m getting … Continue reading

Do It My Way, and No One Will Get Hurt

I’m an odd little duck, and I’m the first to admit that. I like living a carefree life, as long as the carefreeness of it goes according to my schedule. I like being spontaneous, as long as I know exactly what that entails. I like being an eclectic homeschooler, but within certain boundaries. And I absolutely cannot stand it when something happens to throw me out of my groove. Three times this last week, I had my day all mapped out and I knew exactly when I was doing what. My to-do list was polished and shining, I was moving … Continue reading

The 2010 Academy Awards

I look forward to the award season all year, with the cherry on the top being the Academy Awards. However, this year’s ceremony left me feeling like “Eh.” The hosts were James Franco and Anne Hathaway. I have read that these two were chosen to bring in a younger demographic. While they are young stars and very good actors and beautiful, they aren’t the greatest Oscar hosts and I am being nice with that statement. I think James Franco, who is adorable, was literally phoning in his hosting because he had his phone in his hand a couple of times. … Continue reading
