Is it Time to Revamp?

I have always loved the word "revamp" but have never truly appreciated it until I started operating my own small, home business. After all, it can be easy to get in a rut and keep doing the same things over and over again. We don't have bosses or policy manuals that tell us it is time to give the company an overhaul. Instead, we have to decide for ourselves when it is time to look things over and make the necessary upgrades and changes.

You've probably heard the term to "revamp your resume'"? Well, the same can be true of your home business. Even when things are going well, it is often necessary to make some tweaks and changes to keep things running smoothly or to prepare for rough patches ahead. In fact, I have learned over the past couple years that it is JUST when things are going well that it is time to do the revamping-look for places that could stand improvement, put some energy into planning, and "shore things up" for the inevitable downturn in business. I think that getting too complacent can be disastrous for many small, home-based businesses.

Sometimes, we will have made changes to our businesses to adjust to a brief crisis or have to operate below capacity for awhile. In this case, revamping may mean getting things back to the way they were when things were operating at an optimal level.

So, what changes have you always wanted to make to your business, or what recent ideas have you been toying with that you can put in place now? When things slow down or you get a burst of extra energy, instead of assuming that everything in your home business should stay status quo, it may be just the time for a bit of overhaul, repair, improvement and revamping.
