Just Because You Have a Home Business - Doesn't Mean You Have to Work from Homeby Traci Anderson | More from this Blogger 24 Jan 2007 08:05 PM
My "me-day" takes place on Thursdays when I drop my daughter off at preschool for four hours while my son spends a few hours at a local daycare. I make a bee-line for my favorite coffee shop. I order my favorite latte, Love Potion #9 (white chocolate and cinnamon) and I sit in my favorite cozy leather chair with my laptop perched on the stool in front of me. I try to sit in the middle of the shop so that I can eaves-drop on some of the conversations going on around me. Pathetic? Maybe...but I spend six days a week chatting with preschoolers and watching brightly colored monsters on tv. I am absolutely re-energized when I overhear adults chatting about politics, movies and work. I love coffee house music too. I've tried to recreate the environment in my home, but I simply can't find the great tunes I hear at the coffee shop on our local radio channels. My lukewarm, stale cup of afternoon coffee certainly isn't as tasty as my freshly poured, foamy coffee-house latte either. My keyboard practically purrs as I frantically type a weeks worth of blog posts. Maybe the caffiene just kicked in, but I honestly think I am inspired by the "buzz" and chatter of my fellow coffee-aholics and great tunes. Just because you work from home doesn't mean you always have to work from home. You can set up shop at a local coffee house. Certain restaurants and even fast food joints like McDonalds have wireless access now. This summer, I downloaded my e-mail from home and responded to my messages at a local park. With all of the new gadgets...cell phones, laptops, blackberries, home-based professionals can work just about anywhere. Give it a try. You might find that you are more productive when you aren't looking at laundry that needs to be folded, dishes that need to be cleaned up and toys that need to be picked up.
