FHE with Small Children-Pioneer Day

So, Sunday, I had the opportunity to teach sharing time in my ward. The topic was honesty, yet with pioneer day being two days away, I wanted to do something to talk about the pioneers too. I of course went to sugardoodle to look for ideas and I came across a great one to tell stories about pioneer children that were being honest. It was a great lesson. You can find that link here. The kids loved this idea so much that I thought it would make a great FHE lesson too. I decided to make a campfire for our … Continue reading

Can’t All Moms Get Along?

Yesterday, I went to a non-LDS Moms playgroup. Yep, that was the name of it. It strikes me as very silly. But, then again, I live in Utah. I recently met a friend at a park a month or so ago. She had just moved here, our little boys are about the same age, and she and I hit it off. We exchanged phone numbers and have gotten together many times since. Our little boys are loving each other, and it’s great to have another friend. Period. She’s Jewish, I’m Mormon. Big deal. But, to some people, it is a … Continue reading

Getting Together

Every couple of weeks we get together with my husband’s side of the family. We all gather at the “grandparents” house. The adults have a chance to catch up and the kids (the two boys that is), run around trying not to be caught. The other afternoon was one such event. My husband’s brother and sister-in-law have two children: a boy who is three and a baby girl who is fourteen weeks. We have a little boy who is two and a half and a baby girl who is ten weeks. The boys are exactly ten months apart in age … Continue reading

I Had A Weak Moment

Well a dieters worst nightmare or biggest dream depending on how you look at it. I have 1992 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in my living room. Come on this is crazy! I thought I was doing really good only 5 cookies so far until 2 days ago. I had a horrible day of grumpy people and I caved and ate 1 sleeve of peanut butter Do-Si-Do’s. I felt horrible. After it my body went into a mini shock over all the sugar I just ate and worst of all I felt bad about caving and eating because I felt … Continue reading

Why I Thought My Grandma Didn’t Love Me

It’s funny how years and maturity can change your view of things from your childhood. I know all memories are colored by time and usually we have a rosier view of the past than we did at the time but sometimes, it’s warranted. My father died when I was a toddler so every summer I got to spend a week or two with my father’s mother, Grandma D. My father’s family all lived out of state so we didn’t see them on a regular basis. I remember as a child feeling unloved by my grandmother and one of the reasons … Continue reading

An Overdeveloped Sense of Justice

From the time I was little I always thought that if you worked hard, did your best, and were living right you’d be blessed and everything would just work out. So you can imagine my disappointment when I found out life didn’t work this way. I had to learn the hard way that bad things happen to good people, and bad people often get away without any consequences. Life isn’t fair. When it comes down to it, you can be saying and doing all the right things, but sometimes other people’s choices affect your life and you have no control … Continue reading

Making a Story Together

For those of you that are new to my blog I am an Elementary Education major at UVU. Last week one of my professors assigned a huge project. She asked us to write and illustrate an entire children’s book. While it is a fun idea, the task seemed more than a little daunting to me. When we are finished with the project the books will be sent off to a company in Kansas that will bind them into hardback books for us to keep in our homes. I was excited about it, but being the extreme perfectionist that I am … Continue reading

Gluten-Free Resources : Blogs

It is not unusual for people who have to eat gluten-free to feel very alone in this world. Very few restaurants serve food in a way that is safe for us to eat. You might not know anyone else who has to avoid gluten. In reality, you are not alone! There are some excellent gluten-free blogs to explore. There are days when I feel as though there is nothing in this world that is safe for me to eat. It is easy to feel quite alone as you look over a menu at a new restaurant, only to discover that … Continue reading

Adventure to Inspire – Homeschool Blog Review

Over the last month, I’ve had the chance to talk with ToriAnn Perkey, homeschooling mom who runs the blog Adventure to Inspire. As we’ve chatted, we’ve investigated her reasons for choosing homeschool for her family, and today I’d like to talk about the blog itself. I was first introduced to the blog by her husband, Josh. I’m usually a little leery when someone says, “Hey, my wife blogs. Check it out.” But I’ve known and respected Josh for a long time, so I headed on over. What I found was an awesome resource. There are articles sharing thoughts and ideas, … Continue reading

First Christmas Together

So I met my future husband for the first time in September and the in-laws did not seem like they were big fans of mine. Maybe I was wrong but after the good-byes at the airport when I headed home to Massachusetts I was not really feeling the love from my future in-laws. When I talked to my fiancee about the incident at the airport he thought that his parents were just being protective, but he still had the image of how I was going to be best of friends with his family. He still pictured his sister (who is … Continue reading
