Websites to Search When Looking for a Medical Transcription Job

This blog is part of a series on transcription. If you haven’t read the other blogs in this series, make sure to check out the summary page for a listing of all transcription blogs. When you graduate from medical transcription school, the school should be able to give you a list of companies that has hired their graduates in the past, and who are willing to hire more graduates of their graduates in the future. Along with that help, however, you have to be willing to go looking on your own. The first logical stop is Google, and although you … Continue reading

Looking and Open for Leads

Leads for your home business can come from anywhere and everywhere–not just traditional sources or referrals. Are you staying open and aware and keeping your eyes, ears and mind open for possible leads to help grow your business? Individuals who are used to working in sales or running businesses that rely on a steady influx of customers and clients train themselves to look for leads and ask for referrals. That can seem a little aggressive to those of us who are new to running a home business. But, you’d be surprised all the unusual and unexpected places that leads can … Continue reading

“John Carter”: The Review

I went to see “John Carter,” figuring that after my disdainful consideration of how Disney handled marketing the movie, I ought to actually go see it for myself. I’ve not read the book upon which the film was based, but now I wish to, and especially to continue the series. I want to find out what happens; the film concluded on a perfect open-ended note, leaving viewers hanging but in that good, can’t-wait-to-find-out-what-happens-next way. Only now that Disney has to swallow $20 million over “John Carter,” I doubt that any more will be made. And that’s a shame, because “John … Continue reading

Single Mothers Seminar

Last night I attended a single mothers seminar. I had been looking forward to it all week because I have been looking into some ways to make some money from home so I can keep Logan in daycare as little as possible. I also thought it would be a good way to connect with other single moms in the area. Well it was one of those days. It seemed like the entire universe was combining against me to keep me from making it to this seminar! My mother had agreed to watch my son for me, I even left on … Continue reading

Our Adoption Story – Starting Again

Little Josiah’s adoption began to move forward, though it was slow going, and as the months went by we began to feel our hearts heal little by little from the loss of Erick. We still missed him but we were starting to get excited about bringing Josiah home. For some reason I also suddenly developed a very strong interest in the country of Liberia. I was looking at adoption programs, talking to adoptive families, etc and the whole time wondering why on earth I was interested in Liberia when we didn’t even have our Guatemalan child home yet. Still, I … Continue reading

You Never Know Who You’re Talking To

One of the most important “rules” of networking is something I learned years ago in a fundraising workshop—the facilitator explained that you just can’t just a book by its cover and that you NEVER know who you might be talking to—whether at a networking event or on line at the grocery store. That scruffy looking person may turn out to be your best customer or connect you with a great vendor or client. Learning how to be an effective marketer and networker, means we have to realize that every human interaction is purposeful. I know this can seem like I’m … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! – I’m a Pickle

I’m sure you noticed I haven’t posted anything to this blog for a little while. I haven’t been sick or on vacation – I’ve been fat, and I’ve been too ashamed to blog about it. You see, when writing about weight issues on such a public forum, you’re really opening yourself up to criticism. It doesn’t come – you are all too nice to do that – but the fear of it is still there. What if I blog and tell everyone about the five pounds I lost and put back on? Will they think I’m a failure? It’s hard, … Continue reading

The Chamber of Commerce as a Resource

You may think that your local Chamber of Commerce is just for bigger or more established businesses, OR that the rates to join are far too high to ever be a reasonable option for your start-up or small home-based business. BUT, even if you can’t afford to join the Chamber of Commerce as a full-fledged member, it can still be a great resource for your home business. Your Chamber of Commerce likely has a website where you can access information about events, projects, and all sorts of member businesses and individuals. This can help you narrow your search for mentors … Continue reading

Self-Promotion Woes

I had an e-mail from a friend of mine who is building a real estate business in Southern California. She is doing fantastically well, but after running another type of business on her own for years, it is a whole new culture and process and type of business. She’s definitely still learning the ropes. She was sharing with me that her biggest “challenge” is self promotion. To quote her comment she referred to herself as an “anti-bragger in a sea of braggers.” Meaning that she’s feeling as though it goes against her personal nature to really talk herself up! Having … Continue reading
