The Green Party

I don’t know about you, but I am a bit worn out with all the presidential race news. But, one thing I haven’t heard much about, unfortunately, is the Green Party. It seems like Al Gore should be its presidential candidate, but the Green Party candidates are actually Dr. Jill Stein and her vice-presidential candidate, Cheri Honkala. The Green Party isn’t new – it’s been around since 1984. What is their platform? According to its homepage, the Green Party, or “Greens” as they call themselves, “are grassroots activists, environmentalists, advocates for social justice, nonviolent resisters and regular citizens who’ve had … Continue reading

Sometimes, people who really want to work from home stop short of investigating home – based business options because they think that starting a home – based business requires more money than they have. While it is important to be realistic about what it will cost to open up a home – based business, you may not know that there are options out there that are within reach for people with all kinds of budgets. For example, my freelance writing business cost me next to nothing to start because I used a computer that I already had, internet service that … Continue reading

The Voice of Domestic Peace

Sometimes the most difficult part of becoming more like Christ, is making the small every day changes that are necessary. At least, it is for me. I have had the nagging feeling as of late that I need to be better at a lot of things. Yet, sometimes, I feel overwhelmed by the daily task of just accomplishing one of those things. Like, reading my scriptures, for example. My biggest goal right now is working on using a softer tone when I speak to my children. I read the talk, “Except the Lord Build the House…” by Gordon B. Hinkley … Continue reading

Big Green Purse by Diane MacEachern

The sub title for this book is – Use your spending power to create a cleaner, greener world- and that’s just what they show you how to do. Diane explains how every dollar you spend impacts manufacturers decisions and how pointing your spending dollar can influence how products are made and the environmental impact they have. One of the examples of this change is tea. Usually tea is grown with lots of pesticides by farmers who are not paid a fair wage and whose children usually have to work in those fields. Thanks to the demand for organic teas many … Continue reading

Natural Cleaning Products are Getting Better

All natural cleaning is really coming into it’s own. There is a move towards products that are safer for our families and better for the environment. Heinz, who currently makes more than 7.5 million gallons of vinegar a year for American households has announced it will be making a stronger vinegar. The new product will be 20% stronger than traditional vinegar and still be safe for cooking. This move shows … Continue reading

Keeping House While Working From Home

If you work from home, people may have this strange idea that you have oodles of spare time that you could use to keep your house looking immaculate. While that may be true for some home – based professionals, most of the ones that I know are either very busy looking after their children while running their businesses or very busy with their businesses if they don’t have kids or have older children. We probably have approximately the same amount of time available for house cleaning that anyone else does. That said, when you work from home a clean house … Continue reading

Business Idea – Cloth Diapers

One home – based business idea that could be a good match for someone who likes to sew and has young children at home is a cloth diaper business. Cloth diapering is making a comeback, thanks to a growing number of internet retailers including many home – based working moms. Many of these moms make and sell their own cloth diapers, and the variety of different types and designs of cloth diapers out there is amazing. Cloth diapers are a practical product, but there is plenty of room for creativity. There are a variety of fabrics that can be used, … Continue reading

A Little Bit Greener

I’m just about ready to give up housecleaning. Everything I read tells me it’s bad for the planet, the chemicals in cleaners are polluting the air and water and all those containers are winding up in the landfill. Of course I’m being just a little facetious, but you see what I’m saying. The more we try to do right – keeping our homes clean and germ free, the more harm we do to the environment. I’m sure that most of us are doing what we can to solve this problem but I do know that for me, using only green … Continue reading
