Planning for a New Arrival

One of the challenges of being a home – based professional parent is deciding what to do when you become a parent, either for the first time or when you expand your family. Having a newborn in the house is an adjustment and while you may not be able to completely stop working for a period of time when you have a new baby, it is important to plan how much of what kinds of work you will and won’t be doing during those first few months. It is also important to think about whether you will look for help, … Continue reading

Home Based Professionals, Hold Your Heads High

Sometimes I like to take a little time to think about what has changed from the time that I started my two home – based businesses a little over two years ago until now. Today, I realized that one major change that has occurred over that period of time is how I think about myself and my businesses. That has impacted the image that I present to others regarding not only myself, but my businesses as well. Believe it or not, I think that these changes are responsible from my transition from being not busy enough and looking for additional … Continue reading

Finding More Time To Work

Being a home – based professional gives me the flexibility to work anytime, anywhere. Of course, for me, any time means any time that my son is napping, sleeping, or in the care of my husband or another loving relative. Anywhere does mean just that, though. Today I thought it might be fun to talk about some of the places that I have taken my trusty laptop in the interest of getting work done when the opportunity presents itself. Why today? Well, today I am sitting in the waiting room of the phlebotomy lab at a hospital an hour away … Continue reading

Dead Dog Walking

Today I failed as an animal lover and as an advocate of rescuing animals. I let a stray continue being a stray. I did stop my car so the dog could cross the busy street. I was thankful I had caught it out of the corner of my eye in time so I could stop. I was thankful that the person in the car behind me had enough time to slam on their brakes and not hit me. I marveled that the dog had made it across Nolensville Road at all. It’s a six lane road with a turning lane … Continue reading

Sleep Disorder: Jeremiah’s Story

Tonight might be the last night I don’t get any sleep. In January my son Jeremiah will turn five. He was placed with us for adoption three-days before his first birthday and has NOT slept through the night even one night since he joined our family. For the first year I just lived with it thinking it might be normal for a little baby who had already been in the care of four different mom’s. I just resigned myself to the fact that he and I would share those hours in the middle of the night together and bond better. … Continue reading
