Overcoming Obstacles and Removing Barriers

I've written about how fear and procrastination can interfere with being productive and functional in our home businesses, but I got to thinking about the challenge of overcoming obstacles and removing barriers overall when it comes to running a business. Some of these obstacles and barriers may be self-imposed, but some are definitely just realities of life. In order to keep our businesses moving forward, however, we have to learn how to overcome and eliminate obstacles and barriers so we can grow and thrive!

I understand that nobody expects life to be smooth-sailing-okay, almost nobody over the age of twenty expects life to be smooth-sailing, but unless we brace ourselves, our businesses can be dead in the water before we ever get out of port! There are logistical obstacles like licenses, start-up capital, inventory, contracts and legal concerns, and there are also those "self-imposed" obstacles like our own insecurities and character "realities" that can interfere with our being able to successfully operate our businesses.

To a certain point, we have to work through and remove some of those barriers in order to get our businesses going-wrestle with our insecurities and fears and jump through all the bureaucratic hoops in order to create at least a little operating space in which to get some work done (and make some money while we're at it.) For me, it helps to actually ask myself what sort of obstacles I'm facing or which barriers have popped up to get in the way of my doing my work. Otherwise, I just seem to spin my wheels. But, if I force myself to take a look at the realities of what might be standing in the way of my productivity, I can then dig in and tackle those challenges so that I can get on with the good stuff!
