The Special Needs Blog Week in Review is a great way to quickly catch up on everything that appeared in the Special Needs Blog in the past week. It is a good way to make sure that you haven’t missed anything. You can scan through this list to search for blogs about whatever particular special needs your child happens to have. I would like to point out an episode done by The Coffee Klatch that is titled “NY Times Op Ed Gone Wrong – Ritalin Gone … Continue reading

What Parents Put Up With

And the Miley song was on And the Miley song was on And the Miley song was on… and on… and on… and on… And I thought the freakin’ fish song was bad. I stand corrected. Listening to Miley Cyrus’ hit song “Party In The U.S.A.” for the 10 billionth time is like getting hit in the head with a sledgehammer by manic railroad worker with good aim. The problem is my 5-year-old LOVES it. Which opens up an entirely different can of worms. For starters I’ve gone to great lengths to shield my baby from pop culture influences, including… … Continue reading

Simple Toys, Simple Joys: Playing with Balls

We have plenty of toys that make noise at our house, have numerous buttons, light up at a toddler’s touch, quiz you on the alphabet and sing songs. But, I am often reminded by my own kids that the simple toys are the ones that really make memories. Although the weather outside is still cold here in pennsylvania, the sun is bright today. It filled our living room turned playroom into a bright cheerful space. These are the best days to get down on the floor and explore the toy box (or should I say boxes, since in our house … Continue reading

Home Blog Month in Review: August

Did you have a good month? We seem to have packed an entire summer’s worth of activities in this past month. Now, it seems, it is back to school and time to get ready for autumn. Still, it is nice to look back toward warm sands and wearing shorts even as we will soon be crunching leaves and taking out the sweaters. August 1st Getting Out Grass Stains With summer in full swing, chances are that your family has been playing outdoors quite a bit. And with all of that outdoor play comes the grass stains, especially if you are … Continue reading

Air Bud World Pup

Air Bud first emerged with the story of a Golden Retriever who could play basketball. The series then continued on with the same Retriever playing volleyball, football, and more. Soon the series needed more. Air Bud World Pup is the movie in which the Air Buddies are introduced. In this movie Buddy’s family marries and gets a stepfather and sister. Josh, Buddy’s owner, soon meets up with his new little sister’s soccer coach (which is a school girl his age). Before long Josh finds a new interest in soccer. With the school soccer team two players short it is left … Continue reading

Working Anywhere and Everywhere (Getting Up to Speed on Mobility)

I am a recent convert to the world of the laptop computer. I know that there are those of you who are shaking your heads and wondering how I could even call myself a writer for all these years when I have been tied down to the cumbersome desk computers. The truth is, I genuinely liked having an organized workspace and being able to compartmentalize my work life with other aspects of my world. Strangely enough, while I entertained the idea of getting a laptop in the future, and I fantasized about what it might be like to be a … Continue reading

Playing Catch-Up

I have written so much about staying motivated and organized that you might think that I never fall behind. While getting back-logged and having to play catch-up is one of the things I hate the most in my home business operations, it is a fairly common occurrence. The reality for me is that with all the flexibility and the juggling of work, family, and personal responsibilities I seem to vacillate between briefly feeling “on top” of things and feeling like I’ve got to get going to catch up. I especially feel this way after a holiday weekend like this last … Continue reading

Throwing a Puppy Shower—Step 3: Games

What would a shower be without games? Here’s some suggestions for games you could play at your puppy shower –with both human and canine guests. Games for Human Guests • Guess Pup’s Weight: Provide pens and slips of paper for everyone to write down what they think your new puppy weighs. Closest wins! (Make sure they also include their names so you know who guessed what.) • Agility Course: This one will also be under the canine guest list, but wouldn’t it be fun to see their people run it too? Fastest time wins! (Might have to improvise on some … Continue reading

Playing with Fire on the 4th of July

We are decidedly not fireworks people. I have never set fire to anything more grandiose than a sparkler on the 4th of July. I do, however, take pleasure in viewing firework displays – both the amateur local and impressive, highly structured professional varieties – and do so from a far. This holiday, our gal is really enjoying the mini-light shows some folks in the neighborhood have been putting on during the evenings leading up to America’s birthday. We will sit out on the driveway with some milk and cookies and look skyward for the glittering flashes of red, white and … Continue reading
