Still, it is nice to look back toward warm sands and wearing shorts even as we will soon be crunching leaves and taking out the sweaters. August 1st Getting Out Grass Stains With summer in full swing, chances are that your family has been playing outdoors quite a bit. Stretch, Walk, Move Around

I know that as home business owners, many of us do not HAVE to be tied to a desk or stuck in one position for an entire work day. Unfortunately though, I do think that many of us don’t get up and move around when we are working as much as we should. Maybe it is because there are not coworkers to go visit or a break room to retire too. Unless we have young children to care for and several natural breaks in our work routine, we might actually get into a rut of being more stagnate than we … Continue reading

Bonds Need to be Stretched and Tested

If you love something, set it free…blah blah blah—we’ve all heard that saying a zillion times and I’m sure it has been applied to parenting at least half that many times. In reality, however, our bonds with our children are strengthened and encouraged when they are stretched and tested. Often it is the being apart and going out into the real world that makes kids feel even closer and more attached to their parents and families. I know that it seems like it should be just the opposite—that we should keep our children in close and maintain our influence over … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Beginning Walkers

Good morning, welcome to our latest Dear Heather and while this week it may be short, but sweet, I wanted to answer some questions, including questions I found on the forum boards. This is has been a crazy week here in the life, a week that bid goodbye to one old friend of mine and to bid farewell to another friend of my family, a very nice lady I’ve known since I was a kid. It definitely makes me think about the choices I make in life, reassess what I’ve done, what I want to do and where I want … Continue reading

Stretch Routines – Simple Tips to Follow

Okay, so we’ve talked about why you need to stretch. Let’s talk about some simple rules to follow while you are stretching in order to get the most benefits from your workout. It’s also important to note here that you can stretch daily whether it’s a part of your actual workout or not. For example, I try to stretch every morning when I get up – I spend ten to fifteen minutes getting everything limber and shaking off the stiffness and while I do some mild stretching when I actually get to my workout So with that in mind, let’s … Continue reading

More Fun Pregnancy Symptoms: Leg Cramps

In the middle of the night a few weeks ago I woke up with a terrible pain in my leg.  I cried out about it, and immediately began trying to rub and move my leg.  My more-than-half-asleep husband drowsily watched me do this.  He watched me try to bend my leg, to rub it, to put weight and hobble around the room on it.  When I made it to the bathroom he followed me, and asked me if I thought I was just having Braxton-Hicks.  In my leg.  Now we know that if I go into labor in the middle … Continue reading

How to Score Big Savings on the Road

When you are looking for ways to reduce travel expenses start small.  You may be surprised to see that in no time those minor moves can add up to big savings. Here are a few simple money-saving tips to get you started: Stay at a hotel that offers complimentary breakfast, and then take an extra apple, banana, yogurt or granola bar to eat as a mid-afternoon or late-night snack.  It beats spending additional money feeding the vending machine or calling room service when you get hungry later in the day. Bypass big city restaurants and dine at a cheaper … Continue reading

Pick Me Up!

My little guy is at such a fun stage right now, but there are some things that he does that are not so fun. I have a little secret. My baby yells at me! It sounds funny to say it, but it is the best way to describe what he does to let me know he is not happy. Gone are the days when he had a little sweet newborn cry. With a full house with three kids, he has to make sure he gets mama’s attention. I guess that means that sometimes he needs to step it up a … Continue reading

We are in the final countdown to Christmas. Have you finished your holiday shopping? While it may not be in the forefront of your mind, how about incorporating a little bit of exercise into your shopping sprees? Here are some ideas to make this happen. As you go from store to store, park as far away as you can. Not only do you get in some extra walking but you will be closer to the exits and can get out of the parking lot faster. If you are shopping at the mall, take extra laps around. Skip the escalators and … Continue reading

A Grand Halloween Entrance

For a long time, there was an amazing Halloween house down the street. Every year on the stroke of the day before Halloween, the people who lived there would unload a piece of fabric as large as the front of their house and drape it from top to bottom, making the entire home look like a castle. From black lights to a giant skeleton superimposed on the tree across the street, their house was outstanding and no one could compete. Sadly, they moved away last year. However, their Halloween shenanigans inspired me to do more with my house on Halloween. … Continue reading
