Succeeding in Home Business by Acting "As If"

Likely, you hear enough negativity and can come up with plenty of reasons when pressed why your home business "might not" succeed. In the early stages, and during tough and bumpy times, it can be hard to see the forest for the trees. However, like other things in life, assuming that you will and are succeeding and acting "as if" your home business is already a booming success may be just the thing to keep you motivated and help you "fake it, until you make it"...
The mind is a powerful thing, and somewhere in the back of our minds, we know that attitude and perspective make a huge difference in how we are able to cope with the realities of life. But, when it comes to our businesses, we may think everything is far to practical and cause-and-effect related--we might forget that attitude has EVERYTHING to do with it.
Instead of beating yourself up for what you think ISN'T happening, how about trying the "acting as if" technique and shifting your attitude to include affirmations of how well you are already doing? If you can't find specific examples of what is going well, you might evaluate whether or not you have set your expectations too high or set unrealistic expectations. Celebrate all the little achievements and start telling yourself what a great and fabulous job you're doing. We do this for our kids--provide encouragement and give them a healthy dose of positive reinforcement--we need to learn how to do it for ourselves.
Why not think of our struggling businesses as successful? Why not imagine that we are thriving and thrilled to finally be running our own operations and working independently? Imagining what our lives will be like as our businesses grow and explode can also help create an aura of positive expectations in our lives. Instead of getting bogged down in the slog of every day, try a hearty dose of acting "as if" and imagine how successful your business really is becoming.
