A Dream, Some Hope, and a Laptop

As I reflect on my first year in business as a writer, the biggest thing that comes to mind is how much I still love it. This is not uncommon; in fact it often happens when a person leaves the world of traditional work and starts a business doing something that they love. When I started my writing business I knew that I would enjoy working as a writer, but I did not realize that I would come to enjoy it more and more as I went along. In the year that I have been working as a writer, I … Continue reading

How do you know that the computer that you use every day will work tomorrow, when you need to send out that important email or your child has to do some research for a school project? Like many electronics, computers have a life … Continue reading

Take It Outside – How To Use Your Computer Outdoors

While it is officially springtime, the season has yet to make a permanent appearance where I live. We got glimpses of it last week, with warmer temperatures, melting snow, and oodles of oozing mud. This week has been rather cold and we even got some more snow earlier in the week. I’m dreaming of spending more time outdoors, and since I work from home that means that I have the freedom to do my work anywhere I choose. I’m sure that I am not the only one who is looking forward to warmer weather, so I decided to round up … Continue reading

Be a Healthy Example to Your Children

We really are our kid’s best example. While we strive to make healthy changes to our lifestyle, we should be making sure that our children embrace the same desire. If we don’t pass on a healthy lifestyle to our children, then we are just setting them up for future health problems, let alone self esteem issues. Obesity is a real problem in this country and it is becoming an increasingly significant problem amongst children. It is easier for children to not be active—computers, television, video game systems, iPods and the like are drawing children to become couch potatoes. As parents … Continue reading

First, I take advantage of the weather and my local environment. Write outside my door is a neighborhood road that goes up and down hills. It is the perfect vehicle for interval training because there are periods of intensity and rest. Furthermore, I … Continue reading

When Do You Turn on Your Air Conditioning?

As I sit here battling a nasty respiratory infection, I am strangely thinking about air conditioning. Tomorrow, the weather person promises, will be 84 degrees and very humid. This is a little strange, since it was only a few weeks ago when the temperature outside was 40 degrees and the heat was turned on. My husband is busy taking care of the kids and dinner, and wondering when he should install our window units, which windows to install them in and where to start first. We may put in central air some day, which should make the whole process a … Continue reading

We are talking about reducing your home cooling bill. If you missed the first part of this series, click here: Save on Home Cooling. Adapt yourselves to the heat. Aim for 78 degrees. Last year, we adapted to 82 degrees quite nicely. To help your body … Continue reading
