Ten Steps.....Step 9

Step 9 on our journey is to set your schedule. I'm sure that you're thinking "what schedule? I am working for myself, at home, I will work when I feel like it!" I can tell you from experience, this just doesn't work! You will need a set time when customers or clients can contact you, and have your full attention, and also a set time for you to WORK, free from distraction.
Make sure your friends and family know your schedule. If they insist on calling you during your business hours, unless it is an emergency, politely inform them that you are working, and that you will return their call later. Too often friends and family assume that because you're at home, you're free at any time. Don't let this be the case, or you may never get any work done! The same goes for unexpected visitors.
Having a schedule will also allow you to arrange for quiet time, free from the lovely distraction of your children. If you need to, hire a part time sitter to help you out! None of your clients wants to hear a baby crying or a toddler demanding attention while you should be focusing on them. They don't want to hear your husband asking where his shoes are either (it's a common problem in my house!). STICK to your schedule. Not only will this help you to run your business more efficiently, but it will also help others to take you seriously.
Once you have your schedule set, look back over it. Make sure you've left yourself room for breaks. Schedule in a half an hour or so of PEACE AND QUIET while you're at it! It's important for your stress level and overall health and well being! Read a book, listen to some music, knit, cross stitch, whatever relaxes you, but RELAX! Don't put so much into your business that you lose sight of YOU!
