Direct Sales – The Upside of the Ground Floor

Bill O’Reilly would be proud of me today because I am going to take a “fair and balanced” approach to one of my previous posts, “The Downside of the Ground Floor”. I was a Founding Leader for a popular direct sales company (I actually joined before the company officially launched). I also became a leader with another company that was four years old (and widely popular) when I joined. I certainly have experienced the pros and cons of being in both positions, I argued in my “downside” post that it is often more difficult to be a charter consultant for … Continue reading

The Downside of the Ground Floor

I am a member of numerous work at home forums where women (and some men) network with one another about various work at home opportunities. If I had a dime for every time I read the phrase, “ground-floor opportunity”, I wouldn’t have to worry about working at home any longer. If you’ve looked into any “ground-floor” opportunities (whether it be network marketing, direct sales or other related multi-level-marketing businesses) someone has probably tried to convince you of all the many reasons you should “get in on the ground-floor”. “You can be the first to introduce the products to your friends … Continue reading

Home Week in Review: May 12 – 18

Welcome to the wonderful world of home and garden and our weekly review: Do you love Laundry? I know, the question sounds a little weird. But, there are days when I actually love doing laundry. When circumstances are overwhelming, there is something comforting about regular chores. Completing them can offer a sense of normalcy, constancy, stability, instead of what sometimes feels like drudgery. Doing the everyday tasks that make a house a home and help make a family feel cared for can be a good form of therapy… More Reasons to Move Are you contemplating making a move to a … Continue reading

Buying an Existing Business

Not every home business is created from scratch or from an individual’s lone idea. Many people come to owning and operating a home-based business by way of purchasing an exiting business from someone else. Have you given much thought as to whether or not this might be the way to establish and grow a business that is best suited for your own needs? The benefits of buying an existing business are that you already have contacts, a business model, and, hopefully, an operation that is already generating a steady income. This saves you the time and ambiguity it takes to … Continue reading

The Joys of MT Work

This blog is part of a series on transcription. If you haven’t read the other blogs in this series, make sure to check out the summary page for a listing of all transcription blogs. Sometimes, I think people envy medical transcriptionists a little more than they should. “Wow, you get to stay at home and make great money with a flexible job that offers health insurance and a 401k program??! Where do I sign up?!” I thought that since I was doing my best to cheer on MT work this week, it was only fair if I posted a bit … Continue reading

MLM and Direct Sales – The Challenge of Leading A Volunteer Team

Let me start this post by offering a brief explanation of the commission plans of many multi-level marketing and direct sales companies for those that are unfamiliar. People who join the business as consultants or representatives are encouraged to share the business opportunity with others. If they do decide to join, they are then considered a member of the original person’s “team” or “unit”. Depending upon the companies’ structure, consultants have the opportunity to earn an “override” or percentage of commission from the team members they recruit. I was an active recruiter with both of the companies I represented. Eventually … Continue reading
