Ancestry.com is Aware of the Site Outages

Genealogists who have had problems trying to log into Ancestry.com recently need not worry. It wasn’t caused by your computer, and it wasn’t due to hacking (probably). The popular genealogy website is aware of the site outages, and will let you know when things are back online. It doesn’t take much to ruin a genealogists evening sometimes. Those of you who have paid for a membership at Ancestry.com probably expect that the website will be available to you whenever you want to use it. Unfortunately, every website needs to go down for maintenance eventually. Once in a while, you run … Continue reading

Go for Broke

My sweet little baby wants nothing more than to not be my sweet little baby. According to my six going on 16-year-old daughter, she is the only one in her entire first grade class to have every single one of her baby teeth intact. Being a Recess Mom, I know that she is not exaggerating. She really is the only one in her class who has yet to loose a tooth. However, I am secretly thrilled she hasn’t. Personally, I think the gap-toothed look is hard to rock. Loosing pearly whites changes the entire landscape of one’s appearance and brings … Continue reading

Do It My Way, and No One Will Get Hurt

I’m an odd little duck, and I’m the first to admit that. I like living a carefree life, as long as the carefreeness of it goes according to my schedule. I like being spontaneous, as long as I know exactly what that entails. I like being an eclectic homeschooler, but within certain boundaries. And I absolutely cannot stand it when something happens to throw me out of my groove. Three times this last week, I had my day all mapped out and I knew exactly when I was doing what. My to-do list was polished and shining, I was moving … Continue reading

More Tips to Strengthen Your Marriage

Yesterday I suggested a few tips to help strengthen and improve your marriage. Here are some more. Be Involved Make sure you have interests outside the home and/or outside the work situation. Neither of these should take up all your time. It might be a craft, a sport, or reading. Whatever it is doesn’t matter so much, so long as you are keeping mind and body active and maintain interests outside your family. It will keep you interesting as a person, help you maintain communication skills with others and provide topics of conversation. Have Common Interests At the same time, … Continue reading

It Shouldn’t Be This Hard

Even when you love someone, it isn’t always easy to know the right thing to do. Sometimes no matter how much you love them it’s hard to know when love, support and sympathy are quite simply too much. It’s hard to know when love and concern crosses over into interference and hovering over our spouse or other family members. Sometimes it’s a matter of timing. We want to rush in and act and show our support but in the process don’t give the one we love enough space and time to process things themselves before expecting them to share the … Continue reading

Baby Registry Problems

My wife and I have been having problems with our baby registry at a certain national retail chain of baby related goods that will remain unnamed. If you’ve been reading this blog you know that I am currently a doctoral student in the arts, particularly theatre, but what I haven’t said before is that I have an undergraduate business degree. I worked for a number of years as a lead teller at another national bank before the questionable ethical behavior (at least at those lower levels) made me too uncomfortable to continue cashing in in the business world and I … Continue reading

Rihanna to Appear on Oprah and Ben to Never Appear on “Dateline” Again

Rihanna has yet to speak publicly about the battering she allegedly took at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. However, sources say the singer is now ready to dish about her recent attack with… Oprah Winfrey. Look Magazine is reporting that the talk show queen has secretly been counseling the Umbrella hitmaker since devoting an entire show to dating violence. During the episode, which aired a few weeks ago, Winfrey urged the R&B star to take some time alone to clear her mind, and urged her not to reconcile with Brown until both received professional help. Now, here’s the … Continue reading

Why You Should Take a Dog with You When You Die

Recently Wayne was goofing around with our DVR again and decided to put it to use recording old Twilight Zone shows. Before he leaves for work most mornings, we sit in front of the TV and eat breakfast together. Sometimes we watch the news, but since that’s been too depressing lately we’ve been relying on whatever DVR recordings are in the queue for our morning entertainment. That’s how we came to find ourselves watching one of the Twilight Zone reruns Monday morning. No Dogs Allowed in Heaven It was called “The Hunt.” It’s about an old man and his dog … Continue reading

Celebrities Unite To Help Find Missing Girl

By now I’m sure you have heard the story of 4-year-old Madeleine McCann. She is the British girl who was allegedly kidnapped from her family’s vacation villa in Portugal on May 3rd. News of her disappearance made international headlines and inspired many celebrities to contribute to her reward fund. Currently, the Madeleine McCann reward fund (given to the person or persons who provide information that helps assist in the child’s safe return) has exceeded $5 million. According to British press reports, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has to date pledged the single largest contribution to the fund. One newspaper called … Continue reading

Do You Think of Your Business Like Another Child?

As my own children get older and seem to need me less and less. Or, at least it seems they need me differently, I notice that I tend to think of other things almost like they are my children too. I used to find it rather annoying when people would refer to a garden, or novel, or other project they were working as a “baby” and the completion of the project as “giving birth”—but, now, I find that I can see the comparison. In many ways, I DO think of my home business as some sort of offspring. I have … Continue reading
