What I Discovered in My Self-Evaluation

Last month I wrote about the benefits of a self-evaluation. It is a great way to evaluate where you are at, what you would like to change and what you hope to accomplish in your career. Since those of us who work from home typically don’t have the opportunity to receive feedback from others, we can at least take a good look at our business practices and habits and take note of what could be improved and what goals we would like to set. A couple of weeks ago I finally went ahead and did a self-evaluation. What I discovered … Continue reading

Intentional about Performing Well

The year 2012 is my year to be intentional in all areas of my life. In this blog I am going to address the issue of being intentional about performing well. Performance can be trickier to gauge when you work at home. You don’t have someone providing you objective commentaries on areas you do well in and areas you could improve in. About a year and a half ago I wrote a blog on the benefits of a self-evaluation. A month later I then wrote what I learned from my own self-evaluation. This is one way that you can measure … Continue reading

A Schedule Can Make All the Difference

Every Wednesday I get my assignments for one of my freelance writing jobs. All of the work is due in one week. Now that might sound like a lot of time but I have learned that I need to build into that week a schedule which makes completing the work doable. A schedule is pretty much a must have for anyone who does work at home. If you try to tackle things at whim you are going to find some things in your life being neglected. It is really hard to stay balanced and keep yourself on task without a … Continue reading

Can You Take Constructive Criticism?

Can you take constructive criticism? I have to admit that for a long time I really battled with this. In fact, when I first started writing for Families I really struggled with the initial editing process I had to go through. Yet I have quickly realized the teachable moments that are found in constructive criticism. If you can’t take constructive criticism and I am referring to your career here, then it means that you believe you have “arrived.” You are at the place you need to be and there is no room for improvement. You cannot grow in your work … Continue reading

Coping With a “Health Food” Kick

Just when I think I have seen it all with my three kids, they throw me for a loop. I know that one of the fun things about kids and teenagers, in particular, is that they are forever coming up with new phases and philosophies to try out on their road to adulthood and their own unique version of independence. Just when I thought I had seen just about every version of teenage identity experimentation, my youngest has decided this summer to change his life style–he is now on a health and exercise “regime”… As many of you know, part … Continue reading

Are You Living Up to Your Own Expectations?

I know that the title for this blog seems like an invitation to self-loathing, but it’s not going to be that sort of an article I promise! Of course we can’t always be everything and do everything we hope and intend—especially as home business owners, BUT, since we don’t have traditional annual evaluations in our home businesses, it can’t hurt to do a little evaluation and ask ourselves if we are living up to our own expectations. It is so easy to let the day-to-day realities get us down and we start to let go of things. Maybe it’s just … Continue reading

Author Update – H.B. Moore

Heather Brown Moore granted an interview to Families.com blogger Candace Salima in the spring of last year. Some exciting things have happened to her since then and she’s joining us again today to fill us in. Heather, we’re excited to hear that the third novel in your series has been released. Can you tell us about it? “Towards the Promised Land” is the third volume in my Out of Jerusalem series. The story of Nephi’s family continues, and the reader is taken into a world of shipbuilding, interactions with local tribes in the Dhofar region (Bountiful), and the perils of … Continue reading
