What's in your "toolbox", Part IIby Debbie LaCroix | More from this Blogger 09 Jan 2007 07:55 AM When you go to out to "sell" you have certain things you need to take with you. You may "sell" in different ways. If you are a freelancer, you will sell to clients. If you have a direct sales biz, you will "sell" products or the business. If you offer a service, you "sell" you. Before going out, make sure you have everything you need! Products or Portfolio: This is probably the most important thing to have. You need something to show. If you sell a product, like toys, you will want to show your potential customer the value of your toys. A catalog will not do it justice. If you are a graphic artist or writer, they will want to see samples of work you have done for others. Make sure you put it into a nice presentation, or portfolio. Your first impression is very important. Business Cards and Literature: You will need to take something to leave with them. Most people do not make a decision right away. If you are selling products at a party, most people will order that day, but they may want something to take away with them. It's a great idea to give them your card or a magnet so they can contact you in the future. Order forms, calculator and pens: If you are going to be placing an order, this is very important. Always have the pens on hand as well. If you are doing an initial consultation, you will want a type of form you can fill out that will keep track of what you discuss. For example, if you are designing a website, you would mark the pages that they want so you can create an estimate. Calendar: This is one item I often forget. However, you want to be organized. If you are booking parties, this is essential. If you are setting deadlines for jobs, it's nice to have your own so you can give them an idea on when you complete their project.
