What's Your Business Style?

One of the great things about owning and operating your own home business is that you get to build your business and organize your days bases on your own work and business style. Instead of working for someone else and hoping to find a "company culture" that suits your personality, temperament and work preferences, you can set things up to be a perfect fit.

If you are someone who is extremely organized and likes to keep abundant records and files, then you won't have to worry about an office that may be set up sloppily or coworkers who lose or misplace information. Likewise, if you are someone who prefers to work a bit more intuitively and are NOT someone who likes things to be categorized and filed carefully-your business can reflect that.

I think of it as sort of like having a bedroom or home of my own-only better. I can run my business based on what feels good and right to me, and while I have plenty of variables to take into account such as clients, family, and other obligations, I still get to honor my own personal style.

So, think about whether or not you are truly letting your own personal style come through in your business or if you're still trying to adhere to expectations that may have come from past jobs, bosses or coworkers-I know that it took me a couple months to start to feel my own autonomy and find a work-style that suited me in my business. At first, I was vacillated from wandering around wondering what I should be doing and trying to do anything to keep from working regular hours, to trying to be all "professional" in my efforts. Finally, I slipped into a groove-a style that is both professional and flexible. I learned that I needed to keep some traditional structure in my days and my business, in order to feel comfortable taking advantage of some of the creativity and flexibility.

How about you-have you discovered your own particular working style in the process of building your home business?
