Even Financial Experts Make Money Mistakes

If you feel as though you have made a few financial mistakes, you are not alone. Most people goof up in ways both big and small when it comes to managing their money. Today, I thought that I would share with you some money gaffes that have been made by people that the “rest of us” look to for financial advice. Rather than discrediting the financial advice espoused by the individuals that made the goofs, I feel that the fact that they are able to fess up to having messed up makes these people real. It gives their advice even … Continue reading

Back-to-School Bedtime Routine: Mommy vs. the Sun

Bittersweet sun, how I loved you. And by loved I mean worshipped. And by worshipped I mean in the unhealthiest ways possible. My love affair with the sun began as a young girl. Growing up in Hawaii, that scorching ball of fire in the sky was a constant companion. Not only did its rays provide me with a luminous glow that made my dingiest white shirts look radiant, but the sun also had a way of warming my inner being. Our adoration for each other deepened after I moved to the Upper Midwest. (Nine-month long Wisconsin winters will do that.) … Continue reading

New Website Helps with Summertime Injuries

While summertime may mean warm days and lots of summer fun for you and your kids, hospitals have another name for summer: Trauma Season. Summertime is the prime time for emergency room visits. According to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals, there is an estimated three million kids under the age of 15 that enter the emergency room in the summer months for unintentional injuries. All of this increased activity in emergency rooms is due to the increased levels of activity in the summertime by kids. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia released a statement … Continue reading

Finding Time to Exercise

I know what you are thinking—-you can barely find time to take a shower and brush your teeth, so how can you possibly find time to fulfill the government’s recommendation of exercising five days a week? Fitness experts suggest exercising less, but with more intensity. Basically, if you can’t devote five days a week to exercise then train three days, but pick up the pace during those sessions. For example, if your fitness routine includes using a treadmill or stationary bike run or pedal at your normal pace, then pick up the pace for five minutes before easing off for … Continue reading

Baby Blog Month in Review: July 2008

Two of my three children are summer babies. That is, they were born in the summer and had their first months surrounded by sunshine streaming in the windows, the sound of birds chirping, and days spent wearing nothing but a diaper and a “onsie.” I made sure that they had Fourth of July outfits ready, even though one of them arrived a week after the holiday. I guess he just wasn’t interested in the parade. Do you have a summer baby, too? We had a lot of new information to share this past month, such as recall notices and new … Continue reading
