Insurance Blog Week in Review – July 15 – 21, 2012

Once a week, the Insurance Blog Week in Review brings you an easy way to “ketchup” on the blogs that have been posted here in the past seven days. There could be anywhere between twelve and fourteen blogs that appear. What did you miss? Governor Jay Nixon Vetoes Law Denying Birth Control Coverage Missouri Governor Jay Nixon vetoed a bill that would have allowed health insurers to opt-out of covering birth control even if the employer and employee wanted it to be covered. Missouri already has a law that allows employers or workers opt-out of birth control coverage if it … Continue reading

Balancing Your Time

Childless couples face some different problems than couples with kids, but some of our issues are the same. One problem that I think any married couple has is spending time with one another. The specifics of the problem, however, vary whether or not children are in the equation. It’s well-known that finding time, period, when you have kids is a common conundrum. Finding time to do household chores, take a shower, spend time with your spouse, and still have some alone time can all be troublesome depending how many and what age children you have. Obviously Jon and I don’t … Continue reading

10 Ways to Push Your Teen Away: Expect Your Teen to Be Perfect (Part 3)

There is nothing like hearing your teen bring up some of the mistakes you made when you were a teenager. While some may consider this disrespectful, I tend to view it as an urgent cry, “Please recognize that just as you made mistakes, I will too.” This is the focus on this part of my series on “10 Ways to Push Your Teen Away.” Nothing will push a teen away faster than expecting perfection. Not only is it unattainable but it prevents them from feeling comfortable about coming to you when they do mess up. Don’t we all want our … Continue reading

Show Your Teen You Are a Good Listener

I am definitely not an expert at parenting. I still have three children living at home with several years left, so I don’t claim to know it all. But there are some things I have learned that I believe could be a huge benefit to other parents. Even in the advice that I pass along, it doesn’t necessarily mean I have it down pat. I might still be working on it myself, which is the case here. If I could wrap up in one sentence what I would want to say to any parent when it comes to communication with … Continue reading

Working While Sick

This past week and a half, I have really come to appreciate the ability to work from home when you are sick. Where else can you still get your work done, yet stay in your pajamas? Or where else can you get to things as you feel up to it? Only in a home business. Last December I had my first bout of something called costochondritis. It is basically inflammation in your rib/sternum area. But the symptoms are the same as you experience when you are having a heart attack…chest pain, pain that shoots down into your left arm, difficulty … Continue reading

Is Your Job Making You Sick?

Each home – based professional has his or her own reasons why working from home is right for them. Today, I am going to look at how working at home can help people that have one specific reason that they need to leave their office job as soon as possible. While many people may say that they are sick of their job, there are other people that suffer from actual physical or mental illness as a result of their job. Some people are very sensitive to pollutants and toxins in the environment. It does not take much to make them … Continue reading

A Baby Does Change Your Life

I think some people have the attitude when they are getting pregnant, that a baby doesn’t have to change your life. I think this is funny now that I am a Mom with two kids. But, I’m sure I was a little naive too. I remember right before my first was born, and there was only about a week until my due date and I had a little break down. I remember crying and crying to my husband that it was never going to be “just us” again. I hear people say things like, “A baby doesn’t have to change … Continue reading

Reasons to Fire Your Doctor During Pregnancy

With my first pregnancy, I hated my doctor. With my second, I loved my doctor. I had female OBGYNs both times. First, let me tell you what I loved about my doctor during my second pregnancy. She was calming. She did not overreact about things. This was exactly what I needed. I am a worrier, so having a doctor that was not was very helpful. It was easy to schedule appointments and I never waited more than 10 minutes. She listened to me ramble. Never once did I feel like she was going to rush out of the room, or … Continue reading

Do You Need To Get Motivated?

Motivation. It is the driving force behind all that we do – or don’t do, for that matter. Sometimes we feel like we are motivated, other times, not so much. Have you ever wondered what this mysterious creature called motivation is all about? I am sure you have at least wondered where your motivation went, on at least one occasion. Today, I learned about a book that I am very eager to get my hands on. Before I tell you what it is, I must confess that I am somewhat addicted to literature of a success/inspiration/self-help/motivational nature. The book is … Continue reading

Staying Productive While Working from Home

I have quickly learned over the past several months that being productive while working from home doesn’t exactly come easily. It really does take a lot of discipline and drive to be able to work at home and stay productive. One of the most important ways you can, however, is to separate your work space from your living space. I do understand that this is not possible for everyone but if you can make it work, you should. The ideal situation would be that you would have a room entirely dedicated to your work. I have a room I work … Continue reading
