Glam Shots for Shelter Animals

Do I look cool/cute enough to take home? I have a horrible addiction: I love to look at pictures of dogs and cats on petfinder.com. I know I shouldn’t, but sometimes I just can’t resist. I’ve always been an avid Petfinder follower. I’ve spent time looking at it since I was in high school, and I found the first two pets of my adult life through the site. At this stage I can reasonably say I’m a Petfinder expert. One thing I’ve learned from Petfinder is the importance of creating a good profile for the pets. I’ve seen some pet … Continue reading

Working from Home Does Have Challenges

Twice this week I have heard the phrase, “Well at least…” This always refers to how much more fortunate I am for the work I do at home. It can be a real battle for me to hear those words. Because while it is true that I am blessed to be working from home and doing what I love, the context of those phrases is what gets to me. For instance, a family member was complaining about her schedule and how she can never take off work to get her children to doctor appointments and the like. Then came the … Continue reading

Working from Home Doesn’t Mean I Have It Easy

Someone recently posted on their Facebook status that they had come to the conclusion women who have never held a full-time job while raising children have no clue what its like. Apparently something had rubbed her the wrong way. But quite honestly, I know that feeling of being rubbed the wrong way when it comes to my working at home and raising children. I could say the same thing, “Women who have never had to work at home while raising children have no clue what its like.” Working at home is a blessing, don’t get me wrong. But I continue … Continue reading

Working by Working

Earlier this evening I had a fit of working. My son and my wife were asleep, the house was quiet, and I had some work to do. The “to do” list had built up over the past weeks due to a variety of things. Big news in Egypt (and elsewhere) pulled my attention for a length of time. My favorite band released a new album. These, and other things, pulled focus from my tiny little “to do” list. It grew. It grew like a monster. It was unruly and needed to be tamed. Silence was the answer… and I finally … Continue reading

Balancing Families with Working from Home

In my first blog for Home Business I wrote about the struggles in getting others to realize that although you are working from home, you are actually working. One of the things I mentioned that I would like to blog about in the future is balancing your family with work. I know that most times when we think of this balancing act, we think about moms who work outside the home. They have to balance their jobs with their families. However we cannot dismiss those of us who work from home because believe me, the balancing act is just as … Continue reading

Yes, I Am Actually Working

I am very excited to be contributing a small portion each month to Home Business. You will currently find me blogging mostly for Parents, in particular on teens, and for Fitness. Home Business is a new topic for me but not a new venture in my life. If there is one downside to working from home it is convincing others that you are actually working. I don’t know if others who are involved in a home business share the same struggles. It can become a real source of irritation for me. With my family it wasn’t a matter of them … Continue reading

David Arquette is ‘Feeding America’

Actor David Arquette is known for his roles in films like Scream and Eight Legged Freaks . He’s been a professional wrestling champion (yes, really), started a clothing line with musician Ben Harper (Propr), and married a famous “Friend” (Courtney Cox). Now, he is filling yet another role – as that of the chairman of Feeding America’s Entertainment Council. Feeding America is a charity fighting against domestic hunger. Formerly known as America’s Second Harvest, Feeding America has a nationwide network of over 200 food banks that help provide food for more than 37 million Americans each year. Among those are … Continue reading

Changing Season & Manning the Bake Sale

For the past few days, in our house, the heat has actually been going on in the mornings and sometimes even in the early afternoon. The tick-tick-tick of the baseboard heat has a sort of soothing sound. This morning, waiting for the school bus with my son, we were jumping up and down to keep warm. Fall is definitely here. While fall has typically been my favorite season, this year we aren’t exactly the best of friends. That is because it is starting to get in the way of my regular routine. The mornings are getting increasingly dark. I get … Continue reading

Just Open Your Eyes

I often wonder if people in other times of history really felt that things were so bad as they are in our era. The stock market plunge is still making its effects felt in all areas of the economy and the rise of stocks seems to belie all of the job losses and closed stores in the malls. The threat of terrorism is constant and is spread throughout the world. Not a week goes by that I don’t hear of a synagogue or a Jewish center vandalised. The shooting at the Holocaust Memorial last week was as chilling as it … Continue reading

Rihanna and Chris Brown Take a Break and Liam Neeson Mourns His Beloved Wife

Could it be that Rihanna is actually heeding Oprah Winfrey’s advice? The talk show queen devoted an entire show to domestic violence last week and followed up with another episode yesterday. Now, according to reports, the “Umbrella” singer, who was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend Chris Brown last month, may be taking a break from her tumultuous romance. Winfrey, along with a litany of her celeb guests, urged Rihanna to take a cooling off period from Brown so they could “heal themselves.” While there’s no evidence that Rihanna actually watched Oprah’s shows, it appears that she is heeding Winfrey’s advice. … Continue reading
